Snowmobiling from Frog Lake Sno Park
My friend Kevin and I went snowmobiling from Frog Lake Sno Park on Saturday morning. We arrived just before 8 AM to a slushy parking lot and a temperature around 32°F with wet snow showers. We were one of the first ones there, but I wasn't expecting f very busy day as there is still not very much snow in the lower elevations around Mount Hood.
We headed off down the trail which was full of 4x4 ruts which is typical this early in the season. Luckily there was enough snow for descent trail riding on the sides out of the ruts. We first rode up to the back side of Frog Lake Buttes where there was tons of snow and an untouched trail. It was nice, but a little windy up high.
Next we headed down toward road 48. Unfortunately the snow thinned out to nothing by the time we hit road 48 and we had to turn around. No Bonney Meadows today.
We then headed to Skyline sno park. We had to ride over bare dirt for a couple short stretches to get there. There was not enough snow to ride out of Skyline yet.
We finished off our trip by heading up to Frog Lake Buttes. There was several feet of snow at the top. It was windy, foggy, and the snow had an ice layer on top of it.
By the time we were back at Frog Lake sno park, there were several other groups of snowmobilers just arriving. A big snowstorm is headed our way overnight into the next couple days, so condition should vastly improve very soon.
