Initial Thoughts (09/29/14):
Dorcy's Metal Gear XLM 618 Lumen LED Flashlight is a solid feeling lightweight extra bright flashlight. It feels very sturdy without the weight that often accompanies heavy duty flashlights. This is likely thanks to the aluminum housing and 6 AA batteries that drive the 618 lumen LED flashlight. It has a textured aluminum surface that fits my hand comfortable with a very positive feel. The overall grey color with yellow accents, makes this LED flashlight easy to locate.
I like the simple operation this Dorcy LED flashlight has. One press of the button and it turns on to high power. Another press and it switches to low power. A third press and it turns off. Each press makes an identifiable clicking sound.
Final Thoughts:
I would describe the brightness of the Dorcy Metal Gear XLM 618 Lumen LED Flashlight akin to a battery powered spotlight. It is amazingly bright. On high power it is most suited to spotlighting activities. The focused beam does well at distances, but does not illuminate a wide enough area close in to make it useful for walking around in the dark. I find the low setting better suited to walking around. With the two brightness settings, this LED flashlight is great for most situations I would ever find myself in. This should prove to be a great flashlight for camping, hunting, and fishing, but would also work well on a farm. Dorcy again produced a solid performing LED flashlight with this Metal Gear XLM model. Please note Dorcy warns users to not use lithium batteries with this flashlight.
