Camping at Barlow Crossing Campground

Katie and I took a couple days off to enjoy a longer camping trip with our Mini-Adventurer. We planned on camping in our travel trailer along Barlow Creek near Barlow Crossing Campground. This weekend also happened to correspond with my friend's annual birthday camping trip, so it worked out perfect. Barlow crossing is located close to the junction of NF-43 and NF-48 South of Mt Hood. The actual campground is small with only four sites, but there are numerous dispersed camping sites farther down road 3530 along Barlow Creek.

Before driving the trailer the last half mile down the dirt road, I parked and jumped on my bicycle to make sure our intended camping spot was available. I was disappointed to find a trailer already in our spot, but our backup spot was luckily open. We backed in and were soon relaxing in the warm sun along Barlow Creek. We grabbed a spot across from Barlow Crossing campground, but ended up also paying for the site across from us so we could legally have a campfire (campfires outside of campgrounds usually get banned every year during late summer in Mt Hood National Forest).

   

It was nice to have Thursday to ourselves before our friends began arriving Friday. Julian of course had a great time playing in the dirt. The shower in the trailer came in very handy.

   

Once everyone arrived, we had fun playing games like washers, horseshoes, and BlongoBall. There was plenty of great food and drinks to enjoy with all our friends. By the end of the weekend Julian was just as happy as when we arrived and only had a couple minor bumps and bruises to show for it.
